Lyrics

Risk Hope - Kate ReidJune 2019A poet in the 60’s used to sing, “the times they are a-changing”Well, that’s still true today This old road is rapidly aging  Because we are advocating for ourselves And for the ones that we loveChorus: We believe taking action Is an enactment of hopeOf the way things ought to beMaking art makes a new worldPossibilities unfurlIn the space of a story Standing up can look a hundred different waysRefusing to explain, changing our namesFinding labels to match how we feelResisting erasure is a statementInsisting they listen to what we say about Who we are and what we desireChorus: We believe taking action Is an enactment of hopeOf the way things ought to beMaking art makes a new worldPossibilities unfurlIn the space of a storyBridge:These words, these colours, these songsEmbody our critical collective longingThis is an archive our livesA queer refusal to not be silencedAnd José Muñoz reminds us (space)That we can go off script togetherAnd, if we want to change the worldWe must risk hopeWe must risk hope A poet in the 60’s used to sing, “the times they are a-changing”Well, that’s still true today This old road is rapidly aging  Because we are advocating for ourselves And for the ones that we loveChorus:We believe taking action Is an enactment of hopeOf the way things ought to beMaking art makes a new worldPossibilities unfurl In the space of a story
